Roadrunners defeated by Cougars, Bobcats

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The UTSA softball team dropped to 5-7 on the season after losses to BYU and Texas State Friday afternoon.
 
Game one: BYU
The Roadrunners fell to the Cougars 11-2 in the first game of the day.
 
UTSA was on the board first with a home run in the bottom of the first. Celeste Loughman opened the inning with a walk and Riley Grunberg followed with a homer to right center as the Roadrunners led 2-0.
 
In the top of the fourth, BYU scored 10 runs on eight hits to take the lead.
 
The Cougars added another run in the fifth to extend the lead and end the game in a run rule.
 
Four different pitchers made an appearance for UTSA. Clarissa Hernandez started the game, pitching 3.2 innings with one strikeout. Tatum Seith, Alexa Williams and Makenzie Carpenter followed to close out the game.
 
Game two: Texas State
The Roadrunners were topped 5-0 by Texas State.
 
The Bobcats scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the third to take an early lead.
 
Texas State added two more runs in the fifth off two hits as it led 4-0.
 
The Bobcats added one more run in the sixth to take the game.
 
Jamie Gilbert earned the start, pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts. Madison Nelson came in and pitched one inning.
 
UTSA posted two hits on the day.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they host Texas State at 6 p.m.
