Roadrunners place second at Maryb S. Kauth Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — Behind a trio of top-10 individual finishes, the UTSA women's golf team placed second at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational, which wrapped up on a windy Wednesday at San Antonio Country Club (par 72/6,131 yards).

Camryn Carreon finished in sole possession of fifth place, Ana Gonzalez tied for sixth and Hannah Holzmann ended up with a share of eighth to help the Roadrunners take runner-up honors at their annual home tournament.
 
UTSA posted a 900 (293-302-305) for second behind No. 32 Texas Tech, which claimed the team title with an 888 behind individual medalist and 15th-ranked Sofia Garcia, who fired a 5-under-par 211 (72-70-69). The Roadrunners finished ahead of Texas State by three shots and in front of a pair of Conference USA foes in No. 30 North Texas (904) and 44th-ranked Old Dominion (925) in the eight-team field.
 
Carreon turned in a 7-over 223 to register her second straight top-five showing at the event. The sophomore from San Antonio opened with a 74-73—147 on Tuesday before posting a 76 that featured four birdies, including a chip-in from the fringe on No. 18. Carreon led all Roadrunners with 27 pars, the third-best total in the field, en route to her second top five of the season.
 
Gonzalez carded UTSA's low round of the final day with a 3-over 75 that was headlined by birdies on the 538-yard, par-5 ninth and 492-yard, par-5 16th holes. The senior all-conference performer ended up with a share of sixth place at 8-over 224 (72-77-75) to record her 11th career top 10.
 
Holzmann posted her third straight and sixth career top-10 finish by tying for eighth at 9-over 225. The junior from San Antonio fired a 72-77—149 on Monday and then logged a 76 on the final day on the strength of birdies on the 485-yard, par-5 fifth and 383-yard, par-4 seventh. She finished the week with a team-high six birdies, second most in the field.
 
Nicole Polivchak tied for 17th with a 228. The senior from Sarasota, Fla., carded a pair of 75s yesterday before closing with a 78 that included a pair of birdies on the front nine.
 
Katia Mexsen rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 46th (82-79-83—244) and Live Hope tied for 35th (80-77-81—238) while participating as an individual.
 
The Roadrunners will be back in action on March 28-29 when they compete in The Bruzzy in Argyle, Texas.
