FRISCO, Texas – The UTSA women's basketball wrapped up the 2020-21 season Tuesday afternoon in an 80-66 loss to UAB in the preliminary round of the C-USA Championship.
The Blazers started the game with a 5-0 run to get an early lead. Yuliyana Valcheva scored the first points for UTSA at the 7:22 mark. UAB then hit another 5-0 run to lead 10-2. Grace Daniels put up two more points for the Roadrunners followed by a 9-0 run from the Blazers. In the last two minutes, UAB went on an 8-5 run to lead 27-9 at the end of the first.
In the second, the Blazers opened with a 5-2 run to extend the lead to 21 (32-11). UTSA then hit a 6-0 run to close the gap, 32-17. With 1:45 remaining, the Blazers outscored the Roadrunners 7-5 to lead 42-27 at the break.
Coming out of the locker room, the teams battled for the ball as both had scored 15 points each by the 5:21 mark. UTSA then hit a scoring drought as UAB went on a 7-0 run to lead 64-42. The Roadrunners bounced back with a 5-0 run as they trailed 64-47. UAB led 66-51 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the 10 minutes, the Roadrunners and the Blazers continued to battle it out as UTSA outscored UAB 15-14. Both teams hit short scoring runs during the quarter as the Blazers held onto the lead until the final buzzer.
