Roadrunners fall to Panthers

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped a 72-60 decision to FIU Friday evening at the Convocation Center.
 
FIU opened the game 6-0 to take an early lead. Emilie Baek put UTSA on the board with a 3-pointer at the 7:15 mark. Both teams continued to find the basketball until UTSA hit a scoring drought while the Panthers took a seven point (13-16) lead. A 7-0 run from the Roadrunners tied the game at 13 with 2:14 remaining. UTSA trailed 15-13 after the first.
 
In the second, the Roadrunners hit a scoring drought as FIU hit a 6-3 run to lead 21-16 at the 6:46 mark. UTSA then went on a 6-0 run to trail by one, 21-20. For almost two minutes, the Panthers outscored the Roadrunners 8-2 to lead 30-24. UTSA trailed by six (32-26) at the break.
 
The Roadrunners came out of the locker room with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 32 with 7:29 remaining. FIU then went on an 8-2 run to lead 40-35. Baek hit a 3-pointer at the 4:40 mark to trail by two (40-38). Another run (6-0) from the Panthers pushed the lead to nine (49-40). With five seconds on the clock, Baek made another 3-pointer to bring with Roadrunners within seven (52-45).
 
In the fourth, UTSA opened with a 6-2 run to trail 55-51 at the 7:34 mark. Mikayla Woods made two free throws and a jump shot to tie the game at 55 with 6:20 remaining. FIU went on a 7-0 run to lead 62-55. At the 4:27 mark, both teams had scored 10 points each in the quarter. After the media timeout, the Panthers outscored the Roadrunners 10-5 to hold onto the lead and take the win.
