LAS VEGAS – The UTSA women's tennis team defeated Youngstown State 4-0 Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex at UNLV.
"Started slow in doubles, but were able to win the point," head coach Ki Kroll said. "I thought we fought hard in singles winning all six first sets. We'll have to build on today against a tough Florida Atlantic team tomorrow."
UTSA started 1-0 after winning the doubles point. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Sophie Omoworare defeated their opponent 6-4, followed by Alexandra Weir and Catalina Cabrique upending their opponent 6-4 as well to take the point.
In singles, Zlatarova won with first point at No. 2 with a 6-2, 7-6 win as the Roadrunners led 2-0. At No. 4, Weir battled it out in three sets ( 6-0, 4-6, 6-3) to help UTSA lead 3-0. Cabrique clinched the match for UTSA with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3.
The Roadrunners return to the court tomorrow to take on Florida Atlantic in Las Vegas.
