Unbeaten SMU edges UTSA in Dallas

DALLAS – UTSA volleyball took unbeaten SMU to five sets but the Mustangs were able to outlast UTSA in five (25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 27-25, 8-15), on Friday afternoon at Moody Coliseum. 
 
UTSA (2-3) and SMU (4-0) battled in five sets, a day after the Mustangs posted the win over the Roadrunners in a two-match swing through Dallas. UTSA won the opening set, 25-21, before falling in the following two. The Roadrunners rallied to force the fifth set with a 27-25 win but SMU posted a 15-8 result in the fifth to claim the win. 
 
The Roadrunners were led by an 18-kill effort from sophomore Hunter Coppola, who hit .294 over her 51 attacks. UTSA also got 13 kills, three digs and five blocks from Bianca Ejesieme, the reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. 
 
Kirby Smith added nine kills and 17 digs, with Jessica Langridge finishing with eight kills and five blocks. Allison Jennings finished with a season-high six kills and three digs. 
 
Courtney Walters led UTSA's offensive attack with a double-double, going for 45 assists and 11 digs. 
 
Mia Ybarra had a match-best 33 digs, with Maddie Thayer adding a season-high eight digs. 
 
The Roadrunners will return to action on Wednesday, playing host to Texas State at 7 p.m.
