DALLAS — UTSA sophomore Camryn Carreon has been named Conference USA Women's co-Golfer of the Week for her performance at the Trinity Forest Invitational, the league office announced Thursday.
Carreon carded a 6-over-par 222 to finish in a tie for 11th place at the Roadrunners' season-opening tournament on Feb. 1-2 in Dallas. After opening with a 76 on the 6,258-yard, par-72 Trinity Forest Golf Club layout, she improved each of her next two rounds by two strokes to move into a share of 11th in the 74-player field. She carded a 74 in the second round before recording an even-par 72 that featured six birdies in the final round, which tied for the third-best total in the field.
The San Antonio native helped lead UTSA to an eighth-place finish in the 14-team field that included seven nationally ranked squads. The Roadrunners placed ahead of No. 35 Missouri State and 38th-ranked BYU, while Carreon finished in front of eight top-100 players. Her 11th-place finish is second in her young UTSA career only to her runner-up showing at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational last March in San Antonio.
Carreon shared her first career C-USA Golfer of the Week honor with FIU's Carolina Andrade.
The Roadrunners will return to action next Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 8-9, when they travel to Kyle, Texas, for the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course.
