DALLAS — UTSA freshman Chante Dixon has been named Conference USA Female Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the H-Town SpeedCity Series II, the league office announced Wednesday.
Dixon enjoyed a memorable UTSA debut by collecting a pair of gold medals on Jan. 29 in Houston. A native of Benoni, South Africa, she clocked a time of 5:21.33 to win the mile run just ahead of Houston's Macie Ellis (5:22.76). She returned to the oval later in the afternoon and combined with Zoie Reyna, Maddy Blair and Sofia Salinas to run a 13:17.04 for top honors in the distance medley relay with the second-fastest time recorded in C-USA this season.
Dixon is the third Roadrunner to be recognized with the conference's weekly award this indoor season, as she joins Bashiru Abdullahi and Ingeborg Gruenwald, who were named C-USA Male Track and Female Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, on Jan. 20.
The Roadrunners will return to action this Saturday, Feb. 6, when they travel to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational.
