BOCA RATON, Fla. – The UTSA women's basketball team fell to FAU 72-59 Friday afternoon at the Abessinio Court at FAU Arena.
The game stayed close through the first five and a half minutes. The Roadrunners trailed until they hit a 5-0 run to tie the game at 11 with 4:14 remaining. Over a two minute span, the Owls went on an 11-0 run to lead 22-11 with 2:01 on the clock. In the final two minutes, neither team was able to score as FAU led at the end of the first.
Karley Larson opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer as UTSA trailed 22-14. The Roadrunners hit a 6-0 run to close the gap to five (25-20) with 5:52 remaining. UTSA scored three points to trail 27-23, but a 7-0 run from FAU pushed the lead to 10 (33-23). In the final minute, both teams scored two points each as the Owls led 35-25 at the half.
Coming out of the locker room, FAU scored five-consecutive points to lead 40-25. Emilie Baek made a 3-pointer, followed by a 6-0 run from the Owls. The Roadrunners were able to get a 6-0 run to trail 46-34, but FAU hit another run to push the lead (51-34). Both teams hit a scoring drought, then UTSA had a 6-4 run in the final five minutes as FAU led 55-40 after the third.
The fourth was close the entire 10 minutes. Through the first five, UTSA scored just one more points that the Owls (7-6) to trail 61-47. For the remainder of the game, both teams hit small scoring runs as FAU kept the lead.
