SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA volleyball team will open its Conference USA schedule with a pair of matches against North Texas at the Convocation Center. The two matches will start on Saturday at 8 p.m. and conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The series has been altered in anticipation of inclement weather. Monday's series finale has been moved to Saturday night at 8 p.m. – following the UTSA men's basketball game vs. FAU – and the finale will now be on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
UTSA (2-4) is coming off a Wednesday night loss vs. Sun Belt Conference Champion Texas State, where the Roadrunners pushed the Bobcats to four sets.
The Roadrunners have totaled 12.69 kills per set, hitting .215 as a team, averaging 11.73 assists, 1.5 aces, 16.2 digs and 1.5 blocks per set. UTSA has wins over UTRGV and UIW, falling at SMU in a pair and at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
UTSA boasts four players averaging two or more kills per set, including a team-leading 3.1 kills per set from Hannah Lopez. Freshman Amanda Ifeanyi averages 3.00 kills per set, hitting .453, while sophomore Bianca Ejesieme averages 2.42 kills per set.
Sophomore Hunter Coppola averages 2.88 kills per set, while junior Kirby Smith – the 2108 Conference USA Freshman of the Year – averages 2.41 kills and 2.47 digs per set. Sophomore setter Courtney Walters averages 9.73 assists and 2.27 digs per set. Libero Mia Ybarra leads the team with 5.38 digs per set, owning seven service aces.
North Texas (2-4, 0-2 C-USA) averages 12.6 kills, 11 assists, 1.1 aces, 14.5 digs and 1.6 blocks per set as a team. The Mean Green opened league play last week with a Sunday-Monday matchup at UAB, falling in six of the eight sets.
