Roadrunners swept by UTEP

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team was swept by UTEP after a 67-51 loss Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
 
For the second-consecutive game, Emilie Baek put the Roadrunners on the board first with a 3-pointer. UTEP scored a 3-pointer on its first possession as well to tie the game. Mikayla Woods scored two for UTSA to lead 5-3, then both teams hit a scoring drought. The Miners went on a 7-0 run to push a five-point lead (10-5) until another 3-pointer from Baek put UTSA back within two. UTEP hit a scoring drought as the Roadrunners hit a 5-0 run to lead 13-12 at the end of the quarter.
 
The second quarter was a close one. At the 7:04 mark, UTEP had a 9-5 run to lead 21-18. The Miners went on an 8-0 run to extend the lead (26-18) until Ceyenne Mass made a layup and drew a foul to close the gap to six (26-20). Baek hit her third 3-pointer of the game as UTSA trailed 28-23 with 3:20 remaining. In the final minutes, an 8-2 run from the Roadrunners put them down by two, 30-28, at the half.
 
In the third, the Miners took a huge lead as they outscored UTSA 21-6 in the quarter to lead 51-34 heading into the fourth.
 
For the final 10 minutes, the Roadrunners fought to close the gap. UTEP started the quarter with a 3-pointer to lead 54-34, but UTSA hit a 12-0 run to bridge the difference to eight, 54-46, with 3:17 remaining. Both teams continued to battle it out as the Roadrunners outscored the Miners 17-16 in the quarter.
