EL PASO – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped an 82-56 decision to UTEP Thursday evening at the Don Haskins Center.
Emilie Baek put the first points on the board with a 3-pointer. UTEP found the basket at the 9:16 mark and both teams made a couple more baskets as the game was tied at seven with 4:34 remaining. The Roadrunners hit a scoring drought as the Miners went on a 10-0 run to lead 14-7. Karley Larson broke the drought with a 3-pointer at the 1:29 mark as UTSA trailed 14-10. A 7-0 run from UTEP pushed the lead to 11 (21-10) at the end of the quarter.
The Miners opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 15 (31-16). UTSA scored five points, then hit another scoring drought as UTEP put up eight-consecutive points to lead 37-18 with 1:23 remaining. Once again, Larson broke the drought with 16 seconds remaining as the Roadrunners trailed 39-21 at the half.
UTSA came out of the locker room with a 5-0 run to close the gap to 13 (39-26). At the 4:48 mark, the Roadrunners had outscored the Miners 10-7 in the quarter. For the final three minutes, UTEP hit an 11-3 run to lead 58-34 at the end of the third.
The fourth quarter was a battle for the ball. Both teams continued to score the entire 10 minutes as the Miners outscored the Roadrunners by just five points (24-19) in the quarter.
