UTSA falls to LA Tech

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped a 74-48 decision to Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
 
The first quarter was a tight race the entire 10 minutes. The Roadrunners led 8-6 at the halfway point until LA Tech tied the game (8-8) with 4:04 remaining. The game was tied three times in the quarter, but a Lady Techster free throw with 20 seconds on the clock put them ahead by one (15-14) at the end of the quarter.
 
In the second, both teams continued to battle it out as each had only scored six points with 5:15 remaining. Louisiana Tech and UTSA hit scoring droughts until the Lady Techsters went on a 7-0 run to push a 28-20 lead with 2:17 on the clock. In the final minute, the Roadrunners hit a 5-1 scoring run to close the gap to four (25-29) at the break.
 
Coming out of the locker room, LA Tech opened with a 6-1 run to lead 35-26 at the 6:51 mark. Over a two-minute time span, both teams scored four points each as UTSA trailed 30-39 with 4:29 on the clock. For the remainder of the quarter, the Lady Techsters went on a 9-1 run to lead 46-31.
 
LA Tech opened the fourth quarter scoring 13-consecutive points to push the lead (31-59). Karrington Donald broke the scoring drought with a 3-pointer at the 6:09 mark. The rest of the quarter was a battle for the ball as the Lady Techsters scored just two more points than the Roadrunners (12-10) but it wasn't enough as they took the game.
