DENTON, Texas – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped a 76-52 decision to North Texas on Saturday afternoon at The Super Pit.
Emilie Baek opened the game with a 3-pointer to put the Roadrunners on the board. The game stayed tight until North Texas hit a 9-0 run to lead 13-7 with 3:35 remaining. UTSA then hit a 7-0 run to close the gap to two (14-16). The teams continued to find the basket and with seconds remaining on the clock, Yuliyana Valcheva made a layup to take the lead, 18-17.
UNT opened the second with a 7-0 run to lead 24-18. Both teams hit a scoring drought until the Mean Green went on a 6-0 run to lead 34-24 at the half.
In the third, the teams took turns scoring as UNT outscored UTSA 20-12 to keep the lead (59-38) going to the fourth. In the final 10 minutes, the Roadrunners and the Mean Green were slow to score as each team scored only four points at the 6:20 mark. At one point, UTSA outscored 8-7 as it trailed 46-66 with 4:23 remaining. In the final three minutes, UNT hit a 7-5 run to take the win.
