SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's tennis standouts Joao Ceolin, Javier Gonzalez and Sebastian Rodriguez each earned winners during individual competition at the 2020 Racquet Club Invitational in Midland, GTexas, over the weekend.
Ceolin (Palotina, Brazil) and Gonzalez (San Fernando, Chile) advanced to the semifinals in doubles, besting a team made up of Oklahoma student-athletes, 8-3, before falling vs. a team from the University of Texas. Ceolin picked up a win over his Oklahoma counterpart, Welsh Hotard, in the first round, before falling to the No. 1 overall seed, Texas A&M's Valentin Vacherot.
Gonzalez fell in the first round in a tight match, before posting a pair of comeback wins in the back draw. He fell vs. Texas Tech junior Franco Ribero, 5-7, 5-7 in the final round of his draw.
Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) picked up a first-round win over Ribero, 6-2, 6-4, before falling vs. the No. 2 overall seed, UCLA's Govind Nanda.
