SAN ANTONIO – After opening the season with a four-match road swing, UTSA women's tennis opens its home slate against Sam Houston State Friday and UTRGV Saturday.
Due to resurfacing of the courts at the UTSA Tennis Center, Friday's match will be held at Alamo Heights Tennis Center. Saturday's contest will take place at the Blossom Tennis Center. First serve is at 2 p.m. each day.
UTSA is 5-5 against Sam Houston State in the last 10 meetings, including 2-2 in the Alamo City. The Bearkats won the last two matches in the series, earning a 5-2 triumph in Huntsville, Texas Feb. 1, 2019.
Senior Laura Cabrera is the lone Roadrunner that saw action in a 6-1 defeat the last time the two teams met in San Antonio. The Barcelona, Spain native earned a straight set victory.
Sam Houston State is 4-4 on the season, dropping the last three matches.
The Roadruners are 25-4 all-time against UTRGV, including 20-0 at home. UTSA is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. In the last meeting, the Vaqueros earned a 4-3 victory Feb. 10, 2018 in Edinburg, Texas, snapping the Roadrunners seven-match winning streak that dated to Jan. 30, 2011.
UTRGV is 0-6 this spring, winning just three points, including two the last time out, against Lamar Feb. 1.
