Men’s tennis signs George Washington transfer Garrett Skelly

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team has signed Houston-area native Garrett Skelly for the 2021 season, it was announced on Sunday by head coach Sergey Avdeyev

The Roadrunners added Skelly as a transfer from George Washington University, which recently folded their men's tennis program.

"We are excited to add Garrett to the roster," Avdeyev said. "Finding some of the best players in the state is very important to us and Garrett certainly fits into that category. We can't wait to start working with him in January."

A former five-star recruit who ranked as high as No. 3 in Texas and in the top 50 nationally in the class of 2020, Skelly will join the Roadrunners as a freshman. He earned a fourth-place finish in doubles at the winter nationals in 2019 in advance of what would have been a fall competition season at GWU in 2020.

Skelly was named most outstanding player at The Woodlands High School twice during a decorated prep career. In 2019, he won district and regional 6A titles and was a state semifinalist. During his junior season at The Woodlands, Skelly won both district and regional doubles 6A doubles titles and advanced to the state quarterfinals.
