Roadrunners fall to Bearkats

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The UTSA women's basketball team fell to Sam Houston State, 47-71, Friday night at Johnson Coliseum.
 
In the first quarter, the game stayed close through the first five minutes until SHSU hit a 7-0 run to lead 13-7 with 3:59 remaining. The Roadrunners hit a scoring drought until Charlene Mass scored at the 3:27 mark, but it wasn't enough as the Bearkats led 22-13 after the first. Sam Houston State hit another 7-0 run in the second to push the lead to 18 (39-21) at the half.
 
Coming out of the locker room, both teams struggled to find the basket as the Bearkats only scored one more point than the Roadrunners (6-5) through the first five minutes. Both teams continued to find the basket as SHSU led 54-32 after thr third. In the fourth, the teams battled it out until the final buzzer as the Bearkats outscored the Roadrunners 17-15 to maintain the lead.

  • Mikayla Woods led the team with 11 points
  • UTSA closed the non-conference slate with a 2-3 record

 
The Roadrunners return to action Jan. 1 when they host Rice to open Conference USA play.
