SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped at 50-60 decision to UTRGV Monday evening at the Convocation Center.
In the first quarter, the Roadrunners put the first points on the board until UTRGV scored at the 7:34 mark. UTSA hit an 8-0 run to lead 12-2 at the halfway point. Both teams hit a scoring drought during the quarter until the Vaqueros scored five points with 1:41 remaining to close the gap as the Roadrunners led 15-11 going into the second.
The entire second quarter was a battle for the ball as the scored stayed close all 10 minutes. UTRGV took its first lead (18-17) at the 6:04 mark. The score was tied twice until the Vaqueros hit a 5-0 run in the final minute to lead 30-25 at the half.
Coming out of the locker room, both teams struggled to find the basket with only four points scored in the first three minutes. UTRGV hit a five minute scoring drought as the Roadrunners scored seven points to close the gap to two (32-34) with 4:31 remaining. In the final three minutes of the third, the Vaqueros outscored the Roadrunners 8-5 to lead 42-37.
In the final 10 minutes of the game, UTRGV hit a 9-0 run to push the lead to 13 (57-44). Both teams continued to battle for the ball until the final buzzer.
