UTSA to hold online fundraiser for hunger relief sponsored by Whataburger

SAN ANTONIO — For the ninth consecutive year, UTSA Athletics is partnering with Whataburger for a three-week fundraiser benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank leading up to a food drive at the Roadrunners' home football game against UTEP on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Alamodome.

From Monday, Oct. 26 through the conclusion of the game on Nov. 14, fans who make a donation of $1 or more at my.safoodbank.org/TacklingHunger will receive a thank you letter from the Food Bank and a coupon for a free Whataburger.

Within the 16 counties served by the Food Bank, 20 percent of the population is food insecure, including one of every four children. To help fight child hunger, the Food Bank offers federally funded programs that provide much-needed meals to high-risk children in the San Antonio community. UTSA and Whataburger are proud to support the Food Bank and encourage fans to donate the gift of food for children and San Antonians in need.

"The economic fallout from the pandemic has meant more families are struggling to make ends meet, especially families with children. Please help me ensure no child goes to bed hungry in our community," said Eric Cooper, President/CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank.

Every dollar donated provides seven meals to children facing hunger in the community. Providing the opportunity for substantial impact within our community.

"We know too many families in the San Antonio community struggle to put food on the table for their children, especially now because of the pandemic. As part of our Whataburger Feeding Student Success program, we're committed to removing barriers like food insecurity from children's lives and making sure they have the nutrition and tools they need to be healthy and successful," said Don Hurrell, Whataburger Regional Director of Operations. "We're proud to have teammates like UTSA and the San Antonio Food Bank in the fight against child hunger, and we hope fans will join us on Nov. 14 to watch some great football and support our friends and neighbors in need."
