SAN ANTONIO — UTSA junior Chad Sewell will compete in his second straight U.S. Amateur appearance this week at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.
Sewell will tee off at 3:25 p.m. Central time Monday on Bandon Trails in the first of two rounds of stroke play. His second round will begin at 11:12 a.m. CT Tuesday on Bandon Dunes.
The field of 264 players will be cut to 64 for match play beginning on Wednesday. The rounds of 32 and 16 are set for Thursday, followed by the quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the 36-hole championship match on Sunday.
The match play portion will be televised on Peacock (5 p.m. CT) and the Golf Channel (6-8 p.m. CT) on Wednesday-Friday. The Golf Channel will air the semifinal matches at 6-9 p.m. Saturday and the championship match at 6-9 p.m. Sunday.
Sewell enjoyed a memorable run to match play at last year's U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina. The Conroe native advanced out of a 27-man sudden-death playoff that lasted three hours and 46 minutes with a birdie on the first hole, securing a spot in the Round of 64. Sewell held an early lead against Ricky Castillo in a match that was featured prominently on national television before bowing out in a 5-and-3 decision to end his run.
