SAN ANTONIO – A trio of UTSA baseball standouts are competing in the Texas Collegiate League this summer for the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio, with their home games played at the San Antonio Missions' Wolff Stadium.
With the 2020 Minor League Baseball season cancelled, the San Antonio Missions have repurposed their organization for the summer as a member of the Texas Collegiate League, a summer league that is regarded annually as one of the top competition levels for collegiate players in the nation. The TCL is made up of 10 teams, including five MiLB organizations that have been repurposed in 2020, including double-A franchise in Amarillo, Frisco and Tulsa.
The schedule opened on June 30 in Amarillo with the first home games at Wolff Stadium slated for July 3-5 with a series vs. Acadiana, with first pitch in each game slated for 7:05 p.m. The season will run through Aug. 2.
Barry, a native of Houston, was off to a splendid start to his sophomore season in 2020, starting 13 of UTSA's 17 games. He batted .353 (18-for-51) with a double, two triples, a team-high three homers and 14 RBI, stealing three bases and owning an OPS of 1.041.
Guajardo, a senior righthander out of Laredo, and Jaramillo, a freshman two-way player out of Bishop, Texas, had yet to make their 2020 UTSA debuts before the conclusion of the season. Guajardo was a two-way player at Laredo Community College before redshirting the 2019 season while recovering from injury. Jaramillo was an all-state selection at Bishop High School, who played locally in the summer with the San Antonio Sliders as a prep athlete. Jaramillo graduated high school early in an effort to join the Roadrunners for the 2020 season.
