SAN ANTONIO — Fifty-four UTSA student-athletes are set to earn their degrees following the spring and summer semesters and will be honored in virtual ceremonies held the next two weekends.
UTSA will hold a trio of Virtual Commencement ceremonies scheduled for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 24. These ceremonies will provide a commemorative occasion for graduates that will include an opportunity to have their name and accomplishments professionally read, as well as a photo and personal message of thanks to families and faculty displayed. The virtual ceremonies will include custom video messages from university and community leaders specifically for the Class of 2020. For more information, please visit utsa.edu/commencement.
The UTSA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will hold a Student-Athlete Virtual Celebration for its 54 graduates at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, live on the UTSA Athletics Facebook account (facebook.com/UTSAAthletics). This virtual celebration will feature messages from university and department leaders, head coaches and former student-athletes. It will be available on-demand following the conclusion of the live ceremony. A Facebook account is not required to watch the live or on-demand broadcast.
"Earning a college degree requires responsibility, hard work and dedication," UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos said. "I congratulate each of our graduates on achieving this significant milestone. I know they will continue to represent UTSA well as they get ready to contribute to the world ahead of them.
"The COVID-19 pandemic certainly altered the landscape for this group as they entered their final stretch run of degree progress, but they showed exceptional perseverance in overcoming a challenging situation. We certainly wish we could celebrate their accomplishments as a group in person, but we are excited about the unique opportunity we have to hold a virtual ceremony on May 30 that all of our fans can watch, as well."
Despite having their 2020 spring sports seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UTSA's graduates have put together a long list of accomplishments. This group of student-athletes represents:
• 32 All-Conference USA certificates
• 2 C-USA All-Freshman Team selections
• 4 C-USA All-Academic Team honorees
• 26 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipients
• 85 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll certificates
