SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team dropped a 2-6 decision to North Texas Friday night in game one of the series.
Freshman pitcher Erika Cortez had a 1-2-3 inning to start things off. In the bottom of the frame, Celeste Loughman singled, but couldn't make it home.
In the second, the Mean Green scored a run from a double and a single to take the lead.
North Texas added another run in the third from two singles to lead 2-0.
The Roadrunners were on the board in the fourth. Riley Grunberg earned a walk and Taylor Medina followed with a home run to left field as Grunberg scored to tie the game at two.
In the top of the fifth, the Mean Green scored two more runs from a two-run homer to center field (2-4).
Another two runs in the seventh for UNT helped claim the victory.
The Roadrunners recorded four hits, while the Mean Green had 13.
Cortez falls to 4-5 on the season after pitching 4.1 inning with three strikeouts.
