Carl Goody joins soccer staff

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA head soccer coach Derek Pittman announced the addition of Carl Goody to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Goody joins the Roadrunner staff after spending the last six years at LSU, five as an assistant and one as a volunteer.

"First off, I'm very thankful for all Mark did in his time with us and sincerely wish him the best in Houston," Pittman said. "Hiring quality coaches is one of the most difficult things to do and biggest keys to building a successful program and we have hit a home run by adding Carl to our staff. Carl brings championship experience to our team both as a player and coach! He has proven that he can coach and recruit at the highest level in the SEC, both in the states and internationally. He has a proven track record of success. His energy and knowledge of the game will be tremendous for our players as we continue creating our championship culture within UTSA soccer."

With the Tigers, Goody's primary responsibility was working with the defensive unit. In 2018, the LSU staff was named the United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year after being named the SEC Tournament Champions and qualifying for the NCAA Round of 32.

In his first year as an assistant coach, the Tigers made it to the SEC Tournament semifinals as well as the NCAA Round of 64.

Over course of his time in Baton Rouge, Goody's players racked up a multitude of awards, including all-SEC first and second team, all-SEC freshman team, Southeast All-region first team, third team All-American, SEC tournament MVP, second team academic all-American and SEC all-tournament team.

Prior to LSU, Goody worked as a graduate assistant with the men's and women's soccer programs at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi from 2012-13. In 2013, the women's team reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NAIA National Tournament after an undefeated SSAC conference season.

Goody earned a bachelor's degree in heath and PE and a master's degree in counseling psychology from William Carey.
