SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State defeated UTSA 10-1 Tuesday at Bobcat Ballpark.
The Roadrunners fall for the fifth time in succession, dropping to 10-7 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 13-4.
Dylan Rock accounted for the lone marker by UTSA, homering to left center in the top of the fifth.
Escapades on the mound surfaced again for the Roadrunners, walking 10 base runners with Texas State cashing in seven of the free passes.
Texas State struck for five in the home second – all coming with two outs. Cole McKay retired the first two men in the frame but issued a walk before being lifted for a relief pitcher. After six more batters reached and another pitching change before getting out of the frame, the Roadrunners dug themselves a 5-0 hole.
Ahead 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Bobcats displayed plate discipline, collating four more walks – all with one out and in succession. With two outs, Cole Coffey smashed home the proverbial final blow when he cleared the bases with a double off the fence in right center.
Texas State closed out the game with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the eighth, invoking the mid-week 10-run rule.
