Gary Haasbroek qualifies for NCAA Indoor Championships

SAN ANTONIO – Sophomore Gary Haasbroek has qualified in the heptathlon for the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships, slated for March 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M.
 
A native of Melbourne, Australia, Haasbroek qualified for his second consecutive NCAA Indoor Championships after winning the heptathlon with 5,712 points at the Houston Mid-Major & G5 Invitational on Jan. 31. He earned second-team All-America accolades one year ago after placing 10th with 5,601 points.
 
Haasbroek has the eighth-best score in the heptathlon entering the championships and the top score in Conference USA. Erm Johannes (Georgia) leads the nation with 6,114 points posted at the Razorback Invitational on Jan. 31. 
 
Haasbroek, an honorable mention All-American in the decathlon last June, owns the UTSA school record after posting a total score of 5,949 points at the 2019 Houston Invitational. 
 
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be hosted by New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Fans can watch the event at 6:15 p.m. CT on ESPN3 on March 13 with the telecast resuming on March 14 at 5 p.m.
