SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's tennis claimed the doubles point and wrapped up the match with wins on four singles courts to post the first win of the Sergey Avdeyev era, 5-2 at Louisiana on Sunday at the Cajun Courts.
UTSA (1-2) posted the win over Louisiana (8-2) on Sunday in the third match of the tenure of Roadrunners first-year coach Sergey Avdeyev.
"Today we beat a tough team, who had just posted a win over Rice, at their home court," Avdeyev said. "We put a lot of hard work in the last two weeks and it paid off. We need to recover and hit the practice courts again because we still have some things to improve. We're looking forward to the next week and playing out first match at home."
The Roadrunners claimed the doubles point after wins of the second and third court. Freshmen Joao Alcantra (Santos, Brazil) and Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) posted a 6-3 win on court 2 before Kai Breitbach (Kaarst, Germany) and Javier Gonzalez (San Fernando, Chile) clinched the double point with a 7-5 win on court 3.
In singles, UTSA got a win from Bretibach, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, Rodriguez, 6-7, 6-0, 6-3, Alcantara, 7-6, 4-6, 6-2, and senior Juri Reckow (Hamburg, Germany) posted a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win on court three.
The Roadrunners will host their home lidlifter on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Laredo Community College at the UTSA Tennis Center.
