SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped a 51-87 decision to UAB Saturday afternoon.
The Roadrunners scored first with a 3-pointer by Karley Larson. UTSA went up by four, 6-2, but a 6-0 run from the Blazers allowed them to take the lead (6-8). The game tied twice in the first and both teams continued to find the basket until an 11-2 run from UAB helped it lead 26-19 at the end of the quarter.
Opening the second quarter, the Blazers went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead. UAB hit a scoring drought, but a 16-2 run kept the Roadrunners from closing the gap as they trailed 27-44 at the half.
The Blazers came out of the locker room continuing to find the basket, not allowing the Roadrunners to score until two free throws from Adryana Quezada at the 7:01 mark. UAB went on a 7-0 run until Quezada scored two more free throws to stop the run as UTSA trailed 31-61. In the final three minutes of the quarter, both teams scored five points each as the Roadrunners trailed 38-68 going to the final 10 minutes.
Through the first half of the fourth, the Blazers outscored UTSA, 14-6 to push the lead. The Roadrunners scored five points, but it wasn't enough.
