CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Senior Juri Reckow (Hamburg, Germany) improved to 7-0 in singles with a match-clinching point in a narrow 4-3 win for UTSA Men's Tennis at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, on Thursday afternoon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
UTSA (3-4) rallied past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12-5) behind the match-deciding, three-set finish on court two, which pitted Reckow against Ryuya Ata, a four-time Southland Conference Player of the Week. Reckow fell in the first set, 7-6, before rallying back to claim the second, 6-4 and the decider in the third, 6-3. Reckow is now 7-0 in singles on the year, including a 3-0 mark in the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
"This was a good team win against a tough team," UTSA head coach Sergey Avdeyev said. "Our doubles teams are getting better and that was a key today. We are looking forward to tomorrow's match and putting ourselves in a good position to compete on Sunday."
The Roadrunners won the doubles point behind freshmen Joao Alcantra (Santos, Brazil) and Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru), 7-5 on court one, and Reckow and Javier Gonzalez (San Fernando, Chile) on court two, 6-1.
