DENTON, Texas – The UTSA women's basketball team fell to North Texas, 55-94 at The Super Pit Saturday evening.
In the first quarter, the teams stayed close and were tied with six at the 6:53 mark, until North Texas (10-17, 4-11 C-USA) went on a 7-0 run to take the lead (11-6) and run with it. Ceyenne Mass broke UTSA's (6-20, 2-13 C-USA) scoring drought with 1:17 remaining as the Roadrunners were trailing by six (10-16). A 4-0 run from UTSA closed the gap to four (12-16) but a shot before the buzzer helped the Mena Green lead 18-12 after the first.
North Texas opened the second with an 8-0 run to lead 26-12. After two UTSA free throws, the Mean Green hit a 9-0 run to extend their lead (35-14). Another 7-0 run in the quarter helped North Texas lead 52-23 at the half. UNT outscored UTSA 34-11 in the quarter.
Coming out of the locker room, North Texas continued to find the basket, scoring 24 points, while the Roadrunners scored 15. The Mean Green made multiple short runs, but UTSA never allowed them to score more than six points at a time to remain in the game and trail 38-76 going to the final minutes.
The fourth quarter was close as UNT scored one more point (18-17) than the Roadrunners. Karrington Donald led the team, scoring six points in the quarter. In the final five minutes of the game, North Texas went on a close 6-5 run to secure the win.
