SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's golf team will travel to Laredo to compete in the Border Olympics, which will be held Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 24-25, at Max Mandel Golf Course (par 72/7,297 yards).
The Roadrunners will face No. 49 Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Campbell, No. 35 Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Toledo, ULM, UMKC and UTRGV in the 54-hole event. The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts slated for each day.
UTSA is coming off a tie for fifth place with an even-par 864 at the All-American Intercollegiate last week at the Golf Club of Houston. Christian Fanfelle tied for seventh after carding a 5-under-par 211 (67-74-70) and Chad Sewell shared 14th place with a 2-under 213 (70-71-72) to lead the way.
The Roadrunners placed fifth with a 7-under 857 at last year's Border Olympics. Sewell fired a 5-under 211 (70-71-70) to pace UTSA, while Michael Rome and Christian Fanfelle finished 16th (72-71-71—214) and 19th (73-70-72—215), respectively.
