AUSTIN, Texas – Juri Reckow won his sixth straight singles match to open the year but No. 5 Texas – the defending NCAA Champions – took down UTSA men's tennis 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center.
UTSA (2-4) fell to Texas (9-2) in its third match of the week, after opening the home schedule with a win over UIW on Wednesday and a narrow loss to Nebraska on Saturday. Texas opened its Sunday with a win over the Huskers.
The Roadrunners saw Reckow (Hamburg, Germany) improve to 6-0 on the year in singles with a win on the third court, 6-3, 6-2.
Javier Gonzalez (San Fernando, Chile) posted a 6-3, 6-2 win on court five over Nevin Arimili.
Javier Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) fell in the first set, 3-6 to Jacob Bullard but bounced back to win the second, 6-3 and post a 10-8 win in the tiebreaker.
Freshman Joao Alcantara (Santos, Brazil) fell in the first set on court six, 1-6 but bounced back to take a 5-1 lead in the second before Evin McDonald roared back to post a 7-5 win.
Senior Kai Breitbach (Kaarst, Germany fell vs. the nation's No. 2 singles player, Yuya Ito, 3-6, 2-6.
Freshman Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) faced the nation's No. 6 singles played, Christian Sigsgaard, falling 1-6, 1-6.
In doubles, Texas claimed wins on court one and two to clinch the point, owning a 4-2 lead on the third court when the point was secured.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Corpus Christi, Texas, to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m.
