Fanfelle guides UTSA to top-five finish at All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE, Texas — Christian Fanfelle turned in his second career top-10 finish to guide the UTSA men's golf team to a tie for fifth at the All-American Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at the Golf Club of Houston's Tournament Course (par 72/7,067 yards).

Fanfelle finished in a tie for seventh place at 5-under par to help the Roadrunners share fifth with No. 32 Houston at even-par 864. UTSA carded rounds of 281, 292 and 291 to finish four shots ahead of 30th-ranked South Carolina and seven in front of Louisiana Tech. The Roadrunners ended up just two strokes behind Louisiana in the 13-team race won by Sam Houston State (840).

On the strength of five birdies, Fanfelle carded a 2-under 70 in the final round to wrap up his top finish as a Roadrunner, placing ahead of five top-100 players in the latest Golfstat rankings. After opening with a 67-74—141 on the first two days, the final-round 70 helped the sophomore equal his best 54-hole total of 211, which he first posted at last year's Lake Charles Invitational. The San Antonio native wrote down a team-best 14 birdies for the tournament, the third-best total in the field of 81 players.

Chad Sewell turned in an even-par 72 on Tuesday to settle into a tie for 14th at 3-under 213 for his seventh career top-20 finish. After carding a 70-71—141 for the first two rounds, the junior from Conroe wrote down two birdies and 14 of his team-high 39 pars — tied for fourth overall in the field — in the final round.

Adam House finished in a tie for 30th at 2-over 218, as the senior from Rockwall posted rounds of 70, 72 and 76.

Collin Clark posted a 1-over 73 on Tuesday behind a trio of birdies to close out a 224 (75-76-73) and finish in a tie for 54th.

Hunter Bott rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 59th with a 225 (74-76-76).

Competing as an individual, Will Adams birdied six of the nine holes on the front en route to posting a 3-under 69 in the final round. The sophomore from Odessa Permian High School finished in a tie for 73rd (79-83-69—231).

The Roadrunners will return to action next Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 24-25, when they make the short drive down I-35 to Laredo for the Border Olympics.
