SAN MARCOS, Texas –Wichita State defeated the Roadrunners 12-1 in five innings Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Classic.
The Roadrunners (4-4) were on the board early with a run in the first. Celeste Loughman singled to open the inning, then stole second. Kindell Brooks singled to shortstop as Loughman advanced to third. With one out, Riley Grunberg reached on a fielder's choice as Loughman scored the only run of the game.
Wichita State (5-3) scored three runs from a single and a three-run homer in the third to take the lead, 3-1.
The Shockers added two more in the fourth and seven in the sixth to take the win.
Kindell Brooks and Taylor Medina each had two hits as UTSA tallied seven on the game.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they take on Saint Louis (5 p.m.) and Wichita State (7:15 p.m.).
