SAN ANTONIO -- Junior Jhivvan Jackson broke UTSA's single-season and career scoring marks but Western Kentucky outscored UTSA 13-9 in overtime to post a 77-73 win over the Roadrunners, on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.

UTSA (12-15, 6-8 Conference USA) saw WKU (18-8, 11-3 C-USA) edge the Roadrunners in a back-and-forth affair that saw UTSA rally from down seven at half and force overtime.

A junior out of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Jackson broke UTSA's single-season scoring record, held by Derrick Gervin's 1984-85 season, and passed Devin Brown's career scoring record of 1,922 points over his four-year career. It also moves him into 10th in league history in career points.

Jackson, playing in his 85th career game, had 27 points and three rebounds in 43 minutes.

Jackson now has 1,924 career points and has scored 727 points in 2019-20. He is averaging 26.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on the year and entered the game ranked second in the nation in points per game, behind only Marquette senior guard Markus Howard, who averages 27.4 points per game.

The Roadrunners turned in a strong defensive effort, holding WKU to 36.5 percent shooting from the game and 6 of 21 from 3-point range. UTSA forced WKU to an 8 of 29 mark in the second half from the field. UTSA shot 40.6 percent for the game and were 7 of 31 from distance. The Toppers did their most extensive damage at the free-throw line, making 25 of 32 free throws, while the Roadrunners were 10 of 10 from the charity stripe.

Wallace, a product of Dallas' Richardson High School, had 25 points and six rebounds, with one assist in 44 minutes.

Senior forward Byron Frohnen made his program-record 127th consecutive start to open his career. Frohnen, a native of Las Vegas, pulled down nine rebounds and added four points.

Freshman center Jacob Germany posted his first career double-double, going for 10 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes.

UTSA will return to action with C-USA Bonus Play, with the schedule set for release on Sunday morning by the league office. The Roadrunners earned a berth in the second of three pods for the final four games of the year, joining Old Dominion, FAU, UAB and Marshall.

The Roadrunners took a 9-7 lead into the first media timeout, with Jackson splashing a triple and adding a jumper, Frohnen cleaning up the offensive glass and Wallace sinking a free-throw line jumper.

WKU scored eight of the next 12 points to take a 15-13 lead into the second media timeout. Jackson's stepback cut the lead to two before an 8-3 UTSA run took the lead to 25-18. Jacob Germany's slam and a Wallace corner trey cut the led to 25-23 with WKU owning a 27-23 lead with just over five minutes left in the first.

A 7-0 WKU run stretched the led to 36-25 with 2:27 left and forced a use-it-or-lose-it timeout from UTSA Coach Steve Henson. The Roadrunners were able to cut the led to seven with a pair of Wallace buckets, including a triple off the dribble on the wing, and an Adrian Rodriguez buzzer-beating offensive putback.

UTSA scored 10 of the first 16 points to open the second stanza, with a pair of buckets coming from Germany on the offensive glass to cut the lead to 47-44 with just over 14 minutes left.

A pair of free throws and a deep midrange jumper from Germany gave UTSA its first lead of the second half, 48-47. UTSA answered a pair of WKU buckets with a midrange jumper from Wallace and a triple from Jackson to take a 53-52 lead with 7:41 left.

Jackson's deep three gave the Roadrunners a 56-54 lead but a pair of WKU buckets gave the Toppers a lead. Jackson made four straight from the free-throw line to give UTSA a 60-58, while breaking the UTSA single-season record for points.

The teams traded buckets, with the game even at 60, 62 and 64. Taevion Hollingsworth's floater evened it at 64 with 41.9 seconds left in regulation.

After Jackson's attempt at the go-ahead bucket missed, WKU had the ball with 9.7 seconds left in regulation and got a look from Hollingsworth on the baseline, with Atem Bior securing the rebound to take the game to OT.
