HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Karrington Donald scored 21 points as UTSA was upended 66-53 by Marshall on Thursday.
Adryana Quezada started the game with two layups to put UTSA (6-17, 2-10 C-USA) on the board. Karley Larson followed with a 3-pointer as the Roadrunners led 7-0. UTSA kept the Thundering Herd (10-13, 5-7 C-USA) from scoring until the 7:28 mark. Evelyn Omemmah made two free throws to put the Roadrunners back up by seven (9-2) until a 6-0 run from Marshall closed the gap to one (9-8). At the 3:11 mark, the Thundering Herd made a 3-pointer to take the lead, but Quezada tied the game (11-11) with 2:41 left on the clock. The teams remained tied at the buzzer.
The Herd opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to break the tie and take the lead (11-23). Omemmah broke UTSA's scoring drought and Karrington Donald hit a jump shot to close the gap (15-23). A 7-0 run from the Roadrunners bridged the gap to three, 22-25, until another Marshall 3-pointer pushed the lead with 38 seconds remaining. UTSA trailed 22-28 at the half.
Coming out of the locker room, Larson made a 3-pointer at the 7:32 mark as the Roadrunners trailed by 10, 25-35. Marshall went on an 8-0 run to push the lead to 15 (25-40). UTSA scored five-consecutive points to brake the drought and bring the game within 10 once again. The Herd continued to find the remainder of the quarter to lead 46-32 going to the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Roadrunners outscored Marshall 21-20 as both teams battled for the ball, but it wasn't enough as the Thundering Herd kept their lead to take the win.
