SAN ANTONIO – An early start pushed in the first quarter helped the Mean Green take a 79-55 victory over the Roadrunners Thursday afternoon.
UTSA falls to 6-11 overall and 2-4 in conference, as North Texas improves to 9-10, 3-4 C-USA.
The Mean Green had an early jump start to the game, scoring 21 points in the first qyarter. North Texas opened the game with a 7-0 run until Charlene Mass made a layup at the 5:55 mark to put UTSA on the board. UNT hit multiple small runs to push the lead in the first as the Roadrunners trailed 7-21.
UTSA started the second quarter with a 4-0 run from Evelyn Omemmah and Mikayla Woods to trail 11-21. The Roadrunners hit a 4-0 run to close the gap to seven (16-23) with 7:49 remaining. North Texas hit another run to push its lead even more, 31-16. In the final two minutes, the Roadrunners held the Mean Green to three points as they trailed 22-34 going to the locker room.
UNT came out of the locker room with a layup 15 seconds into the quarter, then hit a field goal scoring drought until the 5:54 mark when the Mean Green went on a 7-0 run. In the final two minutes of the quarter, both teams scored six points each as North Texas led 54-34 going to the final 10 minutes.
In the first half of the fourth quarter, UTSA went on a 13-11 run to close the gap, but UNT continued to find the basket until the final buzzer.
