RUSTON, La. – Mikayla Woods scored 27 points as the Roadrunners defeated the Lady Techsters 82-73 Thursday evening.
UTSA improves to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in conference action, which hasn't been done since the 2016-17 season.
Louisiana Tech put the first points on the board, but Adryana Quezada tied the game at the 9:25 mark. The Lady Techsters then went on a 6-0 run to push a lead. Quezada broke UTSA's scoring drought and Karrington Donald hit a 3-pointer at 7:28 to trail by one, 7-8. With 4:22 to go, Donald made another 3-pointer to take the lead 12-11. The Roadrunners went on a 13-3 run for over half the quarter and led 20-17 after the first.
Mikayla Woods opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer at the 7:41 mark to lead 23-19. LA Tech hit a short scoring drought until the 6:50 mark. The Lady Techsters tied the game at 25 with 5:03 remaining. The remainder of the quarter stayed close as the lead switch back-and-forth between the two teams until UTSA went on a 9-0 run to lead 35-29 with 1:08 left on the clock. LA Tech made a 3-pointer to trail 32-35 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Techsters opened with a 4-0 run to trail by one (37-36). Once again, both teams continued to find the basket, but UTSA only scored 15 points and LA Tech scored 22 to lead 54-52 going into the final 10 minutes of the game.
Donald hit a 3-pointer 17 seconds into the fourth to regain the lead. The Roadrunners went on a 19-3 run over 6:39 of the quarter to push their lead. The Lady Techsters continued to score, but 30 points in the final quarter helped UTSA keep the lead and hold onto the victory while shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
