Balanced attack leads Volleyball past Bradley

DALLAS –Sophomore Hannah Lopez's double-double (24 kills, 14 digs) and match-high 25 points propelled UTSA past Bradley in four sets (17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16) at Moody Coliseum Saturday. 
The Roadrunners (1-2) stormed back from a 1-0 deficit by taking the final three sets to secure the 3-1 triumph over the Braves (0-3).
 
Senior Brianna McCulloch and freshman Hunter Coppola joined Lopez in double-digit kills with 11 each. Sophomore Mia Perales (28) and freshman Courtney Walters (19) combined for 47 of UTSA's 60 assists.
 
Senior Emily Ramirez and sophomore Lydia Niebla joined Lopez with at least 10 digs, setting career highs for both. Ramirez paced the Roadrunners with 27 and Niebla collected 10.
 
Bradley started off hot, finishing 18 of 43 attacking opportunities, registering a .366 hitting percentage in the first season, aiding the Braves to the first set victory.
 
After converting 9 of 42 attempts for a .143 hitting percentage in the first set, UTSA cranked up the offense in the final three sets, while the defense slowed the Braves.
 
Over the final three sets, the Roadrunners smashed 37 kills on 131 tries for a .412 hitting percentage, while their defense slowed down the Braves. Bradley tallied just 29 of 122 (.238) from the start of the second set, including a match low .205 (12 of 39) in the fourth and final set.
 
UTSA hosts UTRGV, Houston and Maryland in the UTSA Classic Sept. 6-7. Houston and the Roadrunners take the court first Friday at noon, followed by UTRGV and Maryland at 4 p.m. All four teams play twice Saturday with UTRGV and UTSA opening the day at 10 a.m. and the Roadrunners host Maryland in the final match of the event at 7:30 p.m.
