Jhivvan Jackson on Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's basketball junior guard Jhivvan Jackson has been named to the 2019-20 Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate player, it was announced by the United States Basketball Writers Association on Thursday afternoon.

Jackson, a native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, is one of 46 players named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List. He is one of two Conference USA players on the watch list, joining Western Kentucky standout center Charles Bassey.

Jackson leads the league and ranks fifth in the NCAA with 23.9 points per game as a junior in 2019-20. The 6-foot, 170-pounder has added 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. A product of Euless Trinity High School in Dallas, Jackson has three games with at least 30 points in 2019-20 and has scored at least 20 in six of eight games.

As a sophomore, Jackson won the C-USA scoring title with 22.9 points per game, adding 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He earned All-Conference USA honors as a sophomore and was tabbed first-team all-district by the USBWA and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Jackson formed a dynamic tandem with fellow guard Keaton Wallace in 2018-19, as the duo led the nation's backcourts in scoring. Wallace averaged 20.2 points per game to give UTSA 43.1 combined points per outing from its backcourt, the fourth-highest scoring duo in the nation.

The 2017-18 C-USA Freshman of the Year, Jackson averaged 18.4 points per game in his debut season. In his career, Jackson has averaged 21.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He ranks second in program history with 205 made 3-pointers and sits sixth in school annals with 1,388 career points.

Since its founding in 1956, the USBWA has named a national player of the year. In the 1997-98 season, the award was named in honor of the legendary Oscar Robertson.

The 2019-20 Oscar Robertson Trophy will be presented at the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta in April. In January, the USBWA will release a second watch list, followed by finalists after All-America balloting is complete in March. Last season, Duke's Zion Williamson was the recipient of both the Oscar Robertson Trophy and the Wayman Tisdale Award.
