LUBBOCK, Texas – The UTSA women's basketball team closed 2019 in a 58-115 loss to undefeated Texas Tech Sunday afternoon.
Texas Tech won the tip, but Evelyn Omemmah stole the ball in the first five seconds and Mandi Cooks put the first points on the board. Karrington Donald hit a 3-pointer at 8:48 to take a 5-2 lead. Charlene Mass followed with a jumper to lead 7-2. The Lady Raiders hit a 9-0 run to take an 11-7 lead with 5:40 remaining. In the final five minutes of the quarter, Tech went on a 17-5 run to lead 30-12 after the first.
In the second, Donald hit back-to-back threes as the Roadrunners trailed 17-35. The remainder of the quarter stayed tight as UTSA scored 20 points and Texas Tech 24 in the 10 minutes. The Roadrunners trailed 32-54 at the half.
Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Raiders went on a 13-9 scoring run to push their lead to 27 (67-40). Freshman Adryana Quezada came out strong and recorded six of UTSA's 17 points in the quarter as UTSA trailed 49-79 going to the final 10 minutes.
Opening the fourth quarter, Texas Tech hit a 13-0 run, further increasing the lead. The Roadrunners hit a scoring drought throughout the quarter as the Lady Raiders took the victory.
