Basketball hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday at The Convo

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, playing host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. The contest will serve as UTSA faculty/staff appreciation, with tickets available for just $5.
 
The game will be broadcast live on CUSA TV, available on goUTSA.com with the Voice of the Roadrunners, Andy Everett, calling the action. The game will be on the Roadrunners Sports Network, available on the Ticket 760 AM and goUTSA.com. 
 
UTSA (1-6) will host the Islanders (3-4) in the finale of a three-game homestand, a season long. UTSA will then venture to Texas State on Saturday to face the Bobcats.
 
The Roadrunners have been led by the nation's No. 2 scorer, junior guard Jhivvan Jackson. Jackson, the preseason Conference USA Player of the Year by Blue Ribbon Yearbook, leads the league and ranks No. 2 in the nation with 25.6 points per game. A native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Jackson averages 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. 
 
UTSA's junior guard Keaton Wallace averages 12.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, owning 2.6 steals per game. Freshman guard Erik Czumbel averages 5.6 points and 1.7 rebounds, with freshman center Jacob Germany owning 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Junior forward Luka Barisic averages 5.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, while senior forward Atem Bior owns averages of 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. Senior forward Byron Frohnen – who has made all 107 starts to open his career – averages a team-leading 6.4 rebounds per game. 
 
The Roadrunners are averaging 68.6 points per game, shooting 36.8 percent from the field and 28.2 percent from 3-point land. Opponents are scoring 78.9 points per game, shooting 47.4 percent and 36.1 percent from 3-point land. UTSA is averaging 36.7 rebounds per game. 
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-4) opened the year with four straight losses, including setbacks vs. Louisiana Tech and at Vanderbilt. The Islanders have bounced back to win three consecutive games, topping UTRGV twice and posting a win over St. Thomas. 
 
The Islanders have been led by 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game from senior guard Jashawn Talton, a 6-foot-5, 210-pounder from Oklahoma City, Okla., by way of McLennan CC. Myles Smith, a 6-0 junior guard from Klein, Texas, averages 13.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Elijah Schmidt averages 7.3 points and 6.0 rebounds, while Nolan Bertain averages 6.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. 
 
TAMU-CC averages 58.6 points per game as a team, allowing 63.4 points. The Islanders have shot 41.0 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from distance, owning 35.4 rebounds per game. Opponents are shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from 3-point land, rebounding 31.3 boards per game. 
 
The all-time series with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is tied at 12-12, with UTSA owning a 7-5 mark in games played in San Antonio. UTSA has won both meetings under Coach Steve Henson, including a 72-58 win in 2017 and a 64-50 win in Corpus Christi in 2018. 
 
In the meeting last year, UTSA rode a 30-15 halftime lead to a 64-50 win over the Islanders. UTSA got a 22-point, eight-rebound game from Jhivvan Jackson, with Byron Frohnen chipping in 13 points and seven rebounds. Keaton Wallace and Atem Bior each had eight points, with Wallace adding four rebounds and four assists. Kareem South led TAMU-CC with 23 points and nine rebounds. Elijah Schmidt had seven points and 10 rebounds. In the meeting in 2017-18, UTSA shot 53.2 percent from the field en route to a 72-58 win, featuring a 14-point halftime lead. UTSA got 14 points from Wallace, with Jackson adding seven points, Nick Allen scoring 10 points.
