UTSA and North Texas set to meet in quarterfinals

HOUSTON – Six days after meeting in the regular-season finale, UTSA and North Texas will face off in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Volleyball Championship, hosted by Rice.
 
The Roadrunners finished 8-6 in league action and enter the tournament as the six seed. North Texas holds the third spot with a mark of 10-4.

FIRST SERVE
- This is the 30th all-time meeting with UTSA holding an 18-11 advantage.
- Both teams qualified for every C-USA Championship since joining the league in 2013 but met once.
- North Texas claimed a 3-1 victory against the Roadrunners in the 2017 semifinals.
- UTSA's Kara Teal and Bianca Ejesieme garnerned All-Conference USA honors Wednesday.
- Teal was named to the first team, while Ejesieme secured a spot on the all-freshman team.

- Friday's contest is the fourth and final quarterfinal of the championship.
- Regular season champ WKU starts the day at noon against eighth-seeded Middle Tennessee.
- Fourth-seed Marshall and fifth-seeded FAU conclude session one at 2 p.m.
- Hosts and second seed Rice takes on No. 7 UTEP at 5 p.m.
 
SCOUTING NORTH TEXAS
- Ranks fourth in Conference USA play with a .235 hitting percentage and hold opponents to the sixth at .209.
- The Mean Green are fourth in assists at 12.52, 16.65 digs and 13.46 kills per set.
- Averages and sixth in blocks at 2.05 and seventh with 1.05 aces.
- Valerian (4.20) and Robinson (3.44) sit fifth and second in the league in kills per set, respectively.
- Skopal leads C-USA with 12.58 assists per set, while  Johnson ranks seventh in hitting at .335.
 
LAST MEETING
- North Texas claimed a five-set decision over the Roadrunners in Denton, Texas Nov. 16, 2019.
- After dropping the first two sets 25-20 and 25-17, UTSA forced a fifth game with wins in the third and fourth.
- The Roadrunners procured a 25-23 triumph, avoiding the sweep before knotting the match with a 25-17 decision in the fourth set.
- The Mean Green earned the 3-2 victory with a 15-8 result in the final game.
- Brianna McCulloch led UTSA with 17 kills and just four errors on 31 attempts, compiling a .419 hitting percentage.
- The senior from San Antonio's Taft High School has 951 kills in her four-year career.
- Hannah Lopez tallied her team-best eighth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 13 digs.
- Teal hit .533 with nine kills and one miscue on15 swings.
- Emily Ramirez filled the stat sheet with 15 digs, six assists and a career-high five service aces.
