AUSTIN – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped an 84-53 decision to No. 22 Texas Thursday evening at the Frank Erwin Center.
UTSA falls to 2-1 on the season, while Texas improves to 1-1.
Texas opened the game with a jumper, but Charlene Mass tied the game at the 7:43 mark. With 4:54 remaining, Mass hit a 3-pointer to push UTSA to a 7-4 lead. The Roadrunners continued with their momentum throughout the first quarter, including a 6-0 run over 1:37 and led 15-10 at the end of the quarter. UTSA shot 35.3 percent from the field.
The Longhorns closed the gap and took a one-point lead in the first two minutes of the second. Mikayla Woods and Evelyn Omemmah put the Roadrunners back in the lead, 19-16. The game continued to stay close the final two minutes when Texas went on a 9-0 run to lead 35-29 at the half.
Coming out of the locker room, the Longhorns scored nine points in the first 3:30 minutes, pushing the lead to 44-31. Texas continued finding the basket, recording 27 points in the third quarter. UTSA posted 12 with Woods and Larson each scoring three. The Longhorns led 62-41 going to the final 10 minutes.
In the fourth quarter, the Roadrunners recorded 12 more points from Adryana Quezada and Larson each posting six points. Texas scored 22 points to push its lead and take the win.
