UTSA Cheer makes history

by Alexandra Covarrubias

History has been made, as UTSA Cheer is currently ranked second going into the 2020 Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) All-Girl Group Stunt Competition. The female power house consists of Melody Carrasco, Sierra Frailey, Madison Looney and Chelsea Soto.

The UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship is the most prestigious college championship competition in the world. Held on Jan. 17-19 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., the competition will be televised on ESPN and ESPN2, reaching over 32 countries.

UTSA's one-minute elite stunt sequence automatically qualified them to compete at the UCA All-Girl Group Stunt competition. The second-place ranking is the highest in school history going into the world championship group stunt competition. Competitively, only the top 12 stunt groups around the world are selected to compete in the most elite college cheer, dance and mascot competition in the world.
