Carreon, Polivchak pace UTSA on final day of Princess Anne Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Camryn Carreon and Nicole Polivchak each carded a 1-over-par 71 to lead UTSA in the final round of the Princess Anne Invitational, which concluded Sunday at Princess Anne Country Club (par 70/5,816 yards).
 
Carreon recorded five birdies, including three in a row and four total as part of a 1-under 34 on the front nine, en route to posting her best round overall and versus par of the season. The freshman from San Antonio finished 59th with a 224 (74-79-71) and led the Roadrunners with eight birdies during the 54-hole event.
 
Polivchak was steady in her final round with 14 pars and a pair of birdies, as she wrote down a three on both the 314-yard fifth and 297-yard 16th holes. The junior transfer form Sarasota, Fla., finished in a tie for 39th with a 220 (75-74-71).
 
Meanwhile, Madison Kidd was the top Roadrunner, as the Lake Jackson native finished 38th with a 219 in her first appearance of her senior season. She carded a 72 that was highlighted by birdies on a pair of par fours on Sunday. It was her second 72 of the tournament and those were sandwiched around a 75. Kidd led UTSA and finished third in the 82-player field with 41 pars for the weekend.
 
Ana Gonzalez tied for 44th place with a 221 (74-73-74). The junior and reigning Conference USA champion posted a 74 in the final round behind back-to-back birdies on Nos. 11-12.
 
Hannah Holzmann rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 60th with a 225. The sophomore closed with a 73 on the strength of 15 pars after opening with a 71-81 over the first 36 holes.
 
The Roadrunners posted their best score of the three-day tournament with a 7-over 287 on Sunday and they finished in 12th place with an 879 (291-301-287). UTSA moved up one spot in the team standings on the final day and finished one stroke in front of C-USA foe Middle Tennessee and comfortably ahead of Minnesota (892) and Marshall (926). The Birds ended up only one shot behind East Caroline and two back of 10th-place Campbell.
 
LSU and Virginia Tech shared the team title at 3-over 843, while Emily Mahar of Virginia Tech claimed individual medalist honors with a 7-under 203 (69-69-65).
 
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Oct. 20-21 at the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas.
