WACO, Texas – Jasmin Starr and Laura Munoz-Baroja advance to singles quarterfinals at the H-E-B Invitational, hosted by Baylor Friday.
Starr advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Gold Draw with two victories. She held a 7-6, 1-0 lead over LSU's Maggie Cubbitt, when Cubbitt retired from the first round. Starr moved past Marta Falceto of Mississippi State by a straight-set victory, 7-5, 6-1. Auburn's Chen Yu and Starr vie for a spot in the semifinals of the main draw at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Munoz-Baroja secured a place in the quarterfinals of the Green Main Draw, with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Auburn's Myrna Olaya.
Diya Menon and Keegan McCain look to battle back through the Green Consolation Draw Saturday, after dropping opening matches. Both need two wins to face each other in the final.
In doubles action, Starr teamed up with McCain and the duo defeated Houston pair of Ndindi Ndunda and Azul Pedemonti 6-3 in the first round of the Green and Gold Doubles Draw. The Roadrunners run ended in the round of 16, dropping the set 6-3 to Kentucky's Lesedi Jacobs and Akville Parazinskaite .
