TULSA, Okla. -- Senior Juri Reckow (Hamburg, Germany) and freshman Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) earned a pair of wins to advance to the third round of the ITA All-American Championships, hosted by Tulsa University on Saturday.
"Very good day from all our guys," UTSA assistant coach Cullen Dees said. "We had an early morning but came out and played well. I liked the way we competed and played our game. It's exciting to be at a big tournament like this and I'm thrilled that we have two guys playing again tomorrow."
Reckow posted a win in the opening round of 256 on Saturday morning, taking down Oral Roberts' Blake Sprouse, 6-4, 6-3. He earned his second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 result over Vanderbilt's Christiaan Worst. It pushes Reckow into the round of 64 vs. Nebraska-Omaha's Matt Hulme at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Sebastian Rodriguez opened his day with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Southern Miss' Ronit Bisht, before taking down Texas A&M's Pranav Kumar, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the round of 64. Rodriguez will take on SMU's Ethan Leon at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Sebastian's brother, Javier (Trujillo, Peru), posted a first-round win over LSU's Nick Watson, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, before falling vs. Tulane's Tim Ruetzel.
Senior Kai Brietbach (Kaarst, Germany) fell in his first-round match, with UMKC's Neil O'Connor taking a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Saturday and Sunday consist of pre-qualifying for the 2019 ITA All-American Championships, held at a pair of venues in Tulsa, the Michael D. Case Tennis Center and the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park. Main qualifying will be held on Monday and Tuesday, with the main draw slated for Wednesday-Saturday with the championship streamed live on ESPN3.
