VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Ana Gonzalez fired a 73 to lead the UTSA women's golf team in the second round of the Princess Anne Invitational on Saturday at Princess Anne Country Club (par 70/5,816 yards).
Gonzalez used 15 pars and a birdie on No. 3, a 352-yard par 4, to post the Roadrunners' low round of the day. It marked a one-shot improvement from her opening-round 74 on Friday and the reigning Conference USA individual champion moved into a tie for 36th at 7-over par 147.
Meanwhile, Madison Kidd also shares 36th place with Gonzalez through the first two rounds. The senior from Lake Jackson, Texas, followed Friday's 72 with a 75 that featured 13 pars.
Nicole Polivchak registered the second-best scorecard of the day for UTSA with a 4-over 74 that was highlighted by a birdie on the 386-yard, par-4 fourth hole. The junior from Sarasota, Fla., is tied for 49th at 9-over 149.
Camryn Carreon posted the other counting score for UTSA with a 79 and the freshman from San Antonio is tied for 67th (74-79—153).
Rounding out the lineup, Hannah Holzmann is tied for 59th with a 152 (71-81).
The Roadrunners carded a 301 on Saturday after turning in a 291 in the opening round. UTSA is in 13th place with a 592, five shots in front of Minnesota, only one stroke behind East Carolina and just five shots out of the top 10.
Virginia Tech leads the team race with a 3-under 557 and LSU's Ingrid Lindblad sits atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under 135 (67-68).
The final round is scheduled for Sunday and the Roadrunners will tee off No. 10 beginning at 7:11 a.m. CT.
